Just finished reading an Outsiders Volume 3 story arc written by Judd Winick with art by Tom Raney. “Devils Work” Outsiders Volume 3 Issues 8-10 It’s a pretty decent read. It kept me entertained and I didn’t feel like I wasted my time. When reading any of Winick’s work, I always feel like he gets a free pass comparable to a writer writing for HBO instead of a squeaky clean network program for NBC or something. The art work is good. The artistic high-light for me was definitely Raney’s rendition of Huntress. He made her costume look modern but added the flare of the old aesthesis of the costume from her earth 2 days. Take a look and judge for yourself.
I always enjoy seeing Huntress in another Book besides Birds of Prey. I think she was used efficiently. Interesting to note that Nightwing does have some of Batman’s capricious habits when it comes to trusting people or letting them in. Don’t be fooled the Dark Knight rubbed off on his protégé. Dick is just great at suppressing the darkness.
Black Lightning makes an appearance; Marvel Junior makes a note worthy cameo. This was definitely a fun read. The conversation between Black Lightning and his daughter Thunder was a very insightful and worthwhile moment. My only serious dislike is that the story Starts off very dark and twisted but the beginning is luckily as dark as it gets. Enjoy Folks!
